Training is essential to worker safety. EITI provides training for all industry workers, from new crew members to worksite supervisors. Combining theory with active application, EITI’s safety programs incorporate industry best practices with your own safety program. Proud to be a member of WorkSafeBC’s Education Network, EITI’s programs meet or exceed all regulatory requirements.

Our Safety programs are categorized into two main sections: High Voltage Safety and General Worker Safety. If you don’t see the safety program that you are interested in, please contact our Safety Manager, Wendy Gibson at 604-590-8918.

EITI's roots are in training tradespeople for the electrical utilities industry. Our instructors are second-to-none in their level of knowledge of safety practices when working on or around high voltage equipment or facilities.

These courses are specifically targeted at tradespeople who are working in the high voltage electrical industry, such as for BC Hydro or private line contractors.

EITI has delivered high voltage electrical safety training to clients in many jurisdictions, across North America or overseas. If you are visiting from an electrical utility outside of BC, please contact us to find out how to arrange training for your personnel.

EITI’s Safety Division industry niche is based on our roots in the electrical utilities industry. Our instructors and curriculum originate from this highly safety-conscious industry which formulated many best practices for common safety tools/processes. We deliver a high volume of training for BC Hydro and other electrical utilities industry customers. By building on this industry expertise and opening up the content of our programs for a general industrial audience, EITI brings a very high standard of safety awareness and safety management skills to the broader market.

Electrical Safety for Trade Workers
The purpose of this training is to teach trades workers about electricity, how to recognize electrical hazards, and what to do if they, or their colleagues, make contact with electrical infrastructure or need to escape from an energized area.
First Responders High-Voltage Electrical Awareness
Are you a first responder? Do you know how to respond if you encounter a downed power line, or other electrical hazard, in the course of your work? BC Hydro has developed a training program to help first responders be aware of and avoid the electrical hazards they may encounter in emergency situations.
Job Site Planning (Tailboard / Tool Box Meetings)
Job site planning meetings (frequently referred to as a “tailboard” or “tool box” meeting) are meetings held at the job site with all workers involved. They are held before the work begins and as required during the course of the work to ensure that all workers understand the hazards, risks, and procedures associated with the job. In this course, we will explore the regulations that demand better on the job planning and communication, and learn how to conduct an effective tailboard.
De-energization and Lockout
Lockout procedures are the most effective method of controlling energy hazards. Lockout procedures are a set of safe work practices and rules that prevent a worker from coming in contact with a hazardous energy source. In this course we will explore the risks and hazards inherent with the maintenance and testing of equipment, and the regulations and procedures that protect workers from energy hazards.
Scaffolding
A practical scaffold building course that enables participants to build and use safely a wide variety of scaffold structures using the three component families: end-frame/crossbrace, system scaffold and tube/clamb. All structures will be build in accordance with recommendations from the SIAC (Scaffold Industry Association Canada), the UBC (United Brotherhood of Carpenters), and regulations from Part 13 (Ladders, Scaffold and Temporary Work Platforms) of the OH&S Regulation of the Worker's Compensation Board of BC.
Rigging
This program provides the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively complete lifting tasks for heavy loads requiring rigging or barrier installation and removal. Such work is often required in close proximity to energized electrical equipment, so the safe and effective installation and removal of proximity barriers is included in combination with rigging procedures.
Chainsaw Safety
This course reviews the basic knowledge required to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw in a utility, industrial, or arboriculture work environment. This program is recommended for all workers involved in the use of chainsaws and in particular for workers with limited experience.
Traffic Control Certification
This certification program is for new traffic control persons, and is delivered by one or more Certified Instructor(s). This program meets all the requirements set out in Part 18 of the Worker’s Compensation Board Regulation and includes both classroom and field training. Theory and practical aspects of traffic flow, public and traffic controller safety are highlighted throughout.
Traffic Control Awareness for Supervisors & Leads
This course is designed for supervisors, crew leaders and lead hands, to ensure that they have an understanding of what to expect of their traffic control persons. The course length varies depending on class participation and questions. The Traffic Control Manual for work on roadways is discussed, as well as the Motor Vehicle Act in relation to traffic control.
Fall Protection Training - WCB Theory Only
This is a Workers' Compensation Board theory-only program. Under the direction of a qualified instructor, students will review the risks associated with work performed above ground level or whenever a fall could cause injury. The application of devices to prevent or “arrest” such falls is discussed in detail. Basic and most commonly used fall protection equipment is demonstrated to the students (students must take SFT-141 if they desire hands-on training). The course covers reasons for fall arrest, WCB regulations covering fall arrest, and how to implement a fall-arrest program.
Fall Protection Training - Hands-On
The course includes both theory and practical hands-on experiences in Fall Protection using approved equipment, while reviewing the risks associated with work performed above ground level or whenever a fall could cause injury. The application of devices to prevent or “arrest” such falls is discussed in detail. Most commonly-used fall arrest equipment is demonstrated. The program will cover reasons for fall arrest, WCB regulations covering fall arrest and how to implement a fall-arrest program.
Underground Utilities Awareness Workshop
This half-day program provides participants with the information necessary to make safe decisions prior to moving earth in the vicinity of underground utilities. The course presents best practices in digging and excavation around utilities.
Basic Underground Utility Print Reading Workshop
This course will provide participants with the information necessary to read, interpret and work with common underground utility drawings. Participants will be able to identify the approximate location of underground equipment before their crew exposes them by hand.
Underground Electrical Spaces Entry & Rescue Procedures
The course has two parts. The morning session provides theories and concepts for testing for gases, ventilation, personal protective equipment, lifelines, standby persons, and policy/procedure requirements. The afternoon session provides hands-on learning in rescue procedures. (This course was previously listed as Course # 455)
