Program: Journeyperson Program
Transformation Hands-On Workshop
Target audience
Journey level Power Line Technicians interested in a refresher course, or to enhance their skills.
Course description
This is a refresher course for Journeyman Power Line Technicians. It is designed to utilize basic transformation knowledge provided in the Transformation: Three Phase program. Theory is condensed such that hands-on exercises are the key focus. The program focuses on three-phase transformer banks, with appropriate reference to issues relating to single-phase applications, and provides an opportunity to enhance skills and understanding with respect to the complexities of three-phase transformation operations
Topics Include:
-
Characteristics of delta and wye systems
-
Transformer bank voltage and capacity implications
-
Load checks and calculations
-
Vectoring and phase angle displacement
-
Cause and effects of ferroresonance
-
Phasing and paralleling of 3-phase circuits
-
Various delta/wye transformer bank connections
-
Paralleling banks
-
Using the vector wheel
-
Back feed theory and hazards
-
Trouble shooting, emergency connections, safe re-energization
