Apprenticeship technical training
Target audience
Powerline Technician who are already indentured as apprentices defined by the Industry Training Authority, (ITA) and employed by an electrical utility company in British Columbia.
Course description
The 3 year Power Line Technician Apprenticeship Program provides hands-on overhead and underground training that meets or exceeds all applicable regulations. It covers the most current safety and maintenance procedures, such as rigging and live line procedures, underground residential distribution, distribution troubleshooting, and more.
YEAR ONE
• Learn electrical fundamentals, driver training, metering basics, rigging and pole-climbing, with emphasis on hands-on training.
• Review WorkSafeBC
• Acquire basic skill sets required in the Power Line Technician trade
YEAR TWO
• Practice safety procedures, rigging and live-line work with respect to distribution.
YEAR THREE
• Review a number of field procedures, with assigned sub-foremen, tailboards, and equipment lists.
• Demonstrate safety work practices and procedures with respect to transmission
*Note: Individuals seeking a career as a Power Line Technician are requested to contact the Industry Training Authority or any one of BC’s electrical utility companies.
